Vilnius: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Monday that he discussed defense cooperation and joint weapons production with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo during a meeting in Vilnius.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy emphasized the need for investment in Ukrainian weapons production and co-production. Finland was informed about Ukraine's domestic 'Drone Line' initiative, which Zelenskyy noted had already shown effectiveness.
The discussions between the two leaders also covered Finland's participation in the Shelter Coalition, support for Ukraine's European Union membership, and ongoing diplomatic initiatives. Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of progress in the Istanbul peace talks, setting forth expectations for achieving a ceasefire, exchanging prisoners, returning children, and facilitating a meeting at the leadership level.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Orpo and the Finnish people for their support, acknowledging their significant contributions. The discussions took place against the backdrop of Ukrainian and Russian delegations engaging in a fresh round of negotiations in Istanbul, hosted by Trkiye.
