Unemployment rate records 23.1% in Q3 of 2022: DoS

Amman, Jordan’s unemployment rate went down by 0.1 per cent in the third quarter of 2022 to 23.1 per cent, compared with the same quarter of 2021, an increase of 0.5 per cent compared with the second quarter of 2022, the Department of Statistics (DoS) showed on Thursday.

The DoS noted that the unemployment rate for males was 20.5 per cent in the third quarter of 2022, compared with 33.1 per cent for females.

According to the figures, the unemployment rate for men dropped by 0.7 per cent while it grew by 2.3 per cent for women, compared with the third quarter of 2021.

In the third quarter of 2022, male unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 per cent, while female unemployment rose by 3.7 per cent compared with the second quarter of 2022.

According to the results, 59.3 per cent of the overall unemployed population holds secondary education degrees or higher, while 40.4 per cent has educational qualifications lower than secondary school.

Unemployment rates differed by educational level and gender, where 29.5 per cent of unemployed males hold a bachelor’s degree or higher compared to 81.8 per cent of unemployed females.

At the governorate level, Mafraq had the highest unemployment rate of 29.2 per cent, while Madaba had the lowest rate of 16.8 per cent.

FM, French counterpart hold talks

Amman, Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, in a phone call on Thursday with French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, discussed the serious Israeli escalation in the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif and the international moves required to stop the escalation and respect the existing legal and historical situation in the city of Jerusalem and its holy sites.

During the phone call, Safadi stressed the need to crystallize an effective international move to stop the Israeli violations of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif, and to ensure respect for the legal and historical status quo in it and in all Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

In the phone call, which took place prior to a special session of the Security Council to discuss the Israeli escalation at a joint Jordanian-Palestinian invitation and at the request of the United Arab Emirates, the Arab member of the council, the foreign minister warned of the danger of storming of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al-Sharif by the Israeli minister and its repercussions on security and stability.

Safadi also warned of the danger of the extremist exclusionary ideology that the Israeli minister holds and the need to send a clear international message condemning and rejecting it.

Safadi thanked the French minister for her country’s position, which rejected the raid, and called on respecting the legal and historical situation in the holy sites and to support the role of the Hashemite custodianship over them, and for her support for holding the Security Council session today.

Colonna said that her country stresses the need to respect the legal and historical situation on the Al Haram and to stop all unilateral measures that undermine the two-state solution.

The two ministers agreed to continue joint work through the Munich Group, which includes, in addition to Jordan, France, Egypt and Germany, in order to stop measures that undermine the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace, and in order to find a real political horizon and resume negotiations to resolve the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.

CPF wins award for best Arab Gov’t project for youth empowerment

Cairo, The Crown Prince Foundation (CPF), via its “Nahno (we) platform” initiative, won the best Arab government project for youth empowerment award.

The platform works to create real volunteering opportunities in multiple sectors for youth from all over the Kingdom, guiding them to participate according to their interests and enhancing the role of volunteer work in their communities.

The Platform for the National Youth Engagement and Volunteering Program (Nahno) was launched with the support of UNICEF to unify volunteerism and youth engagement efforts at all levels by building partnerships with the public and private sectors, civil society organizations and initiative owners.

The platform provides multiple volunteer opportunities, believing that volunteering gives young men and women new skills, increases their personal and practical experiences, and guarantees a bright future for their societies.

FM, Turkish counterpart hold talks

Amman, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in a phone call on Thursday with his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu, reaffirmed their absolute condemnation storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque on Tuesday by an Israeli minister.

The two ministers said that this raid constitute a serious escalation and a violation of the international law and the historical and legal status quo in the holy Al Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al Sharif compound, and warned of its consequences.

Safadi and Cavusoglu urged Israel to respect the historical and legal status quo in the holy sites.

The two ministers underlined that the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al Sharif, with its entire area of 144 dunums, is a pure place of worship for Muslims, and that the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department is the only entity that authorized to manage its affairs and organizes entry to it.

The Turkish Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the role of the Hashemite Custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem in safeguarding the holy sites and their identity, and his country’s support for the Jordanian efforts to protect the holy sites and preserve their existing historical and legal status.

The two ministers stressed the need to stop all illegal Israeli escalatory measures aimed at changing the existing legal and historical situation and all measures that undermine the two-state solution, which represents the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.

The two ministers agreed to maintain coordination and joint action to confront the Israeli attacks on the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque / Al-Haram Al Sharif, including through the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and international organizations.

The phone call also covered relations between the two countries and many regional and international issues of mutual interest.

PM delivers King’s verbal message to Bahrain’s monarch

Manama, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain on Thursday received Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Khasawneh at Al Safriya Palace, who conveyed a verbal message from His Majesty King Abdullah II and HRH Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II to Bahrain’s monarch and Crown Prince and Prime Minister His Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

In the message, the King wished Bahrain’s monarch and crown prince good health and Kingdom of Bahrain further progress and prosperity.

The message also emphasized the “historic, deep-rooted, fraternal” Jordanian-Bahraini relations and their constant keenness to push them to the “best” levels in all fields to serve common interests.

In addition, the message emphasized common positions and the continued coordination and consultation on various issues of common concern.

During the meeting, Bahrain’s monarch asked PM to convey his greetings to His Majesty King Abdullah II and HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, wishing them good health and Jordan further progress and prosperity.

Khasawneh stressed keenness to strengthen brotherly joint relations, which are a model of “fruitful” cooperation aimed to serve the two countries’ interests.

PM , Bahraini Crown Prince co-chair Joint Higher Committee meetings…1st, final add

Khasawneh referred to Jordan’s efforts to create an “attractive” environment for local and foreign investments and endorse a new law to regulate its investment environment, stressing Jordan’s welcome of Bahraini investments and any partnerships between the two countries’ sovereign funds.

The PM presented the comprehensive modernization program that Jordan is implementing under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, as Jordan enters its bicentennial, with its three political, economic and administrative tracks.

For his part, Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister said bilateral relations enjoy “special” importance, adding that his country is looking forward to strengthening ties through Joint Higher Committee.

Bahrain’s Crown Prince also expressed hope that the committee will yield outcomes, whose “positive” impacts would be reflected on the two brotherly countries and peoples.

He affirmed Bahrain’s interest in expanding cooperation horizons with Jordan in various fields, and removing any obstacles that impede the process of their joint cooperation, especially in the trade field.

Highlighting the committee’s preparatory meetings, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply and Minister of Labor Yosuef Shamali and Bahraini Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdullatif Zayani noted that the committee reached 7 agreements, memorandums of understanding (MoU) and executive programs, adding that a set of agreements would be signed during the coming period.

Shamali stressed the cooperation opportunities provided by the Integrated Industrial Partnership Initiative, which includes Jordan, the UAE and Egypt, and later joined by Bahrain, constitutes a step for “broader” economic integration between the four countries.

PM Khasawneh and Bahrain’s Crown Prince attended signing of 7 agreements and memorandums of understanding for Jordanian-Bahraini private sector, labor and vocational training field, health field, and an executive cooperation program in youth field for 2023 – 2025.

The agreements also include an executive cooperation program in the educational field and granting the right of sovereignty over information, and announcement of Jordan as a partner of Bahrain Global Sea-Air Hub for maritime-air freight services.

The PM and Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister also signed the minutes of the joint Jordanian-Bahraini Higher Committee’s meetings in its fifth session.

PM , Bahraini Crown Prince co-chair Joint Higher Committee meetings

Manama, The Joint Jordanian-Bahraini Higher Committee held its fifth session in Manama on Thursday, co-chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Khasawneh on the Jordanian side, and HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Receiving PM at Al-Qudaibiya Palace in Manama, Khasawneh conveyed greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II and HRH Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II to Bahraini Crown Prince.

During the meetings, the two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation relations in all fields and files of common interest, referring to shared views on various Arab and regional issues, especially the Palestinian cause and their support to a just and comprehensive solution to it, which would lead to establishment of an independent Palestinian state with complete sovereignty on June 4th, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The PM and Bahrain’s Crown Prince affirmed the “deep-rooted, fraternal and historic” relations between the two countries, and expressed their unwavering keenness to develop them in various fields to serve their common interests, in implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

In addition, the two sides said volume of trade exchange is still “modest and does not meet level of aspirations and capabilities available in both countries,” stressing commitment to take the necessary measures to remove any obstacles impeding joint trade flow.

Khasawneh said Jordanian-Bahraini relations are “deep-rooted”, based on a “rich” history and fraternal relationship between the two countries’ leaderships.

PM and Crown Prince of Bahrain noted the importance of joint Jordanian-Bahraini Higher Committee meetings in supporting and strengthening the joint cooperation process, stressing the importance of institutionalizing the committee’s meetings periodically in the two brotherly countries.

In addition, the two sides discussed opportunities to expand the joint cooperation areas, especially in the fields of trade, economy, investment, medical and nursing sectors, culture, education, entrepreneurship, human resources and e-services.

The two officials’ talks also highlighted ways to boost connectivity via the two countries’ optical fiber network and en route both kingdoms to countries of the East and West and enhance entry of Jordanian drugs and agricultural products, mainly vegetables, fruits and meat to the Bahraini market.

Police arrests suspect in possession of 200,000 counterfeit dollar bills-PSD

Amman, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel arrested a person in possession of 200,000 counterfeit dollar bills.

In a statement on Thursday, media spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate (PSD) said CID agents tracked information for weeks about a person in Jerash governorate, in possession of a quantity of counterfeit currency and is phoning another person to sell those fake bills.

A special investigative team followed up the case and monitored the suspect to spot the place where he hid the counterfeit dollars and seize the fake cash ahead of being traded in the local market, the spokesperson said.

Then, detectors affirmed information that the suspect struck an agreement to sell the fake currency to a person, and identified the place of handing over the counterfeit dollars in the capital, Amman, the official pointed out.

Police then raided and arrested the suspected person, in his possession of 200,000 fake dollars, who was taken to follow up investigations, the official noted.

University of Jordan obtains Saudi accreditation

Amman, The University of Jordan (UJ) has obtained the accreditation of the Ministry of Higher Education in Saudi Arabia for all its all undergraduate and postgraduate programs, according to the Saudi ministry’s website https://ru.moe.gov.sa, a letter sent by the Saudi Cultural Attaché to the UJ presidency said Thursday.

UJ President, Nathir Obeidat, said the accreditation will support the university’s plans aimed at attracting more Saudi students to study at UJ, expressing his thanks to the Saudi embassy and its cultural attaché in Jordan for their efforts in supporting higher education institutions in Jordan, including the UJ.
