Al-Halbousi discusses in Paris with the Speaker of the French National Assembly the strengthening of bilateral relations

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, met today, Thursday, with the Speaker of the French National Assembly, Yael Braun-Bivet.

According to a statement by his office, the meeting discussed bilateral relations, enhancing cooperation between the two countries in a number of fields, including military, education and culture, developing the energy and clean energy sector, and activating the terms of the strategic partnership agreement that was signed between the Iraqi and French governments in a way that serves the interests of the two friendly peoples.

The meeting also discussed activating parliamentary diplomacy, cooperation between the Iraqi Parliament and the French National Assembly, and coordination of positions and mutual support among international organizations.

During the meeting, Al-Halbousi expressed the importance of the French role in supporting Iraq and its stability, noting the importance of expanding horizons of cooperation and building a strategic partnership between the two countries, stressing the House of Representatives’ support for the Iraqi government in this regard.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed efforts to calm the situation in the Middle East region, and the need to take into account the humanitarian aspects of the current crisis, stressing the need to stop escalation, exercise restraint, provide protection for civilians, and open relief channels, calling for France to have a positive role in containing the crisis and finding solutions to it.

For her part, Yael Broun expressed her country's support for Iraq in all fields in order to achieve its security and stability, stressing the importance of continuing coordination between the Iraqi Parliament and the French National Assembly and supporting the strategic agreement between the two countries.
