Amman: The Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) has exhibited a robust performance since the start of 2025, with the ASE General Index (ASEGI) showing an impressive 14.8% increase, contributing to a total market value of JD2.86 billion. This growth marks a significant improvement in the performance of listed companies and underscores a rise in investor confidence within the Jordanian financial market.
According to Jordan News Agency, this positive trend has also been reflected in the rise of trading activity and liquidity. The ASE20 index, which tracks large-cap companies, recorded a 15.63% increase to a value of JD1.55 billion since January. Moreover, the ASE Total Return Index (ASETR) saw a substantial surge of 24.5%, reaching JD2.04 billion in the same period. The market capitalisation of listed shares also expanded by 23.3%, approximately JD4 billion, highlighting increased valuation confidence among both local and foreign investors.
These developments are noteworthy indicators of the market's resilience and its favorable response to recent economic conditions and regulatory reforms. The daily trading volume has experienced a remarkable jump, escalating from JD3.8 million at the beginning of the year to JD10.3 million by mid-July, which represents a 46.97% growth. This rise signifies enhanced activity in terms of transaction volume and trade value, reflecting a robust level of economic vitality.
In terms of the broader economic landscape, the market capitalisation of the ASE as a percentage of Jordan's GDP has climbed to 57.5%, up from 48.9% at the end of 2024. This growth underscores the increasing role of the ASE in bolstering the national economy and enhancing Jordan's appeal as a regional investment hub.
The positive indicators suggest a strong recovery phase for the Amman Stock Exchange and fuel cautious optimism that this momentum will persist into the latter half of 2025. Contributing factors include ongoing initiatives to boost transparency, a growing investor base, and improvements in the efficiency of the Jordanian financial market. The favorable performance is also attributed to a strong macroeconomic outlook, record net profits achieved by listed companies in 2024, and optimistic forecasts for further positive outcomes.
Government stimulus measures have been instrumental in rejuvenating the economy and bolstering market confidence, playing a significant role in the ASE's recent successes.
