Cairo: The Committee for Coordination and Follow-up with Arab Organizations, part of the Arab Economic and Social Council, has begun a five-day session at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. This meeting includes participation from the finance, economy, and trade ministries of member states, as well as directors-general of specialized Arab organizations.
According to Jordan News Agency, Raed Al-Jubouri, Director of the Department of Arab Organizations and Federations at the Council's Technical Secretariat, explained that the session's focus will be on organizational, financial, administrative, and structural reforms for Arab specialized bodies. The recommendations from this meeting will be presented at the 116th ordinary session of the Economic and Social Council, scheduled for August 31 to September 3.
The committee, established by a 1988 council resolution, plays a crucial role in supporting Arab institutional integration. Al-Jubouri highlighted that the committee reviews oversight reports, final accounts, and financial statements annually, while also assessing organizations' budgets and operational plans every two years.
Current priorities for the committee include monitoring member states' arrears to Arab organizations' budgets, reviewing Arab Monetary Fund reports, and coordinating the General Secretariat's participation in legislative and executive bodies. Additionally, the committee supervises two technical subcommittees: one focused on unifying foundational statutes of Arab organizations, and the other on standardizing financial and accounting systems, whose outputs have been previously approved by the Council.
The agenda for the current meeting includes discussing reports from recent sessions of the technical committee that studies unified foundational systems.
