AMMAN: A report by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) indicates a significant rise in e-commerce activity in Jordan, with 1.7 million parcels delivered in 2023. This surge underscores e-commerce's role as a pivotal driver of economic growth both locally and globally.
According to Jordan News Agency, the TRC's report, titled "Indicators of E-commerce Parcels and Services Related to the Postal Sector (Delivery Services)" for 2023, highlights the substantial contribution of e-commerce to the establishment of start-up companies and pioneering projects. These developments have facilitated flexible job opportunities within Jordan.
The report notes that e-commerce parcels made up about 95% of total global postal consignments in 2023, emphasizing the sector's growing importance. The trend of remote shopping has bolstered business activities in supporting sectors, particularly logistics, transportation industries, and digital payment services.
The data reveals a positive trend in the increase of e-commerce parcels, with express trade experiencing notable growth. E-commerce parcels arriving in Jordan surged by 70% compared to 2022, reaching 1.7 million packages. The most commonly received international parcels included clothing, accessories, electronics, and nutritional supplements.
Conversely, the number of e-commerce parcels dispatched from Jordan in 2023 totaled approximately 100,000 packages. This figure reflects a rising demand for locally produced goods, particularly garments.
