Baku: Minister of Environment Muawieh Radaideh urged higher ambition and the adoption of real actions to address climate priorities at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), currently being held in Baku, Azerbaijan. According to Jordan News Agency, Radaideh made his remarks during the official launch of the "Mediterranean Pavilion" initiative on Wednesday at the conference. The initiative reaffirms the commitment to unity and coordinated action across the Mediterranean region to tackle escalating climate challenges under the framework of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the European Union, with a focus on key areas such as water, energy, and agriculture. The Environment Minister underscored Jordan's active role in supporting regional climate cooperation, particularly in its capacity as a co-chair of the UfM. He urged the strengthening of ties among Mediterranean countries to address shared challenges, including water scarcity and the impacts of refugee flows. He highlighted the Clim ate-Refugees Nexus (CRN) initiative, launched by His Majesty King Abdullah II at COP27, which seeks support for countries like Jordan that host large numbers of refugees while simultaneously striving to adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change. Radaideh noted that Jordan, alongside its partners in the UfM, is committed to achieving a fair and green transition, advocating for a new collective and specific climate finance goal for the region. "We amplify our unified message to enhance our global impact," he emphasized.
