Iraqi Foreign Minister Highlights Palestinian Cause at Arab Summit

Baghdad: Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein stated on Saturday that the Arab Summit produced a series of significant political and economic decisions, with the Palestinian cause taking centre stage on its agenda.

According to Jordan News Agency, during a joint press conference with Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit in Baghdad, Hussein emphasised that the summit addressed vital regional crises and witnessed a convergence of Arab positions. He affirmed that Arab leaders expressed unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people and condemned all violations against them. Hussein also appreciated Oman's role in facilitating Iranian-American negotiations.

He revealed that Iraq proposed the formation of an Arab committee dedicated to resolving regional crises through flexible diplomatic mechanisms. Additionally, the development summit highlighted the importance of boosting inter-regional trade and establishing joint economic projects. Hussein reaffirmed Iraq's commitment to building sustainable partnerships with Arab countries and strengthening regional relations.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit praised the outstanding performance, engagement, and organisation of the Baghdad Summit, describing it as a symbol of recovery for Iraq. He highlighted Iraq's proactive diplomatic role and its ability to adapt to regional developments, noting that Iraq is the first country to chair both the political and economic summits. Aboul Gheit commended Iraq's initiatives, emphasising that this reflects the renewed vitality and positive momentum in the country's recent performance.
