Karak: The Government of Japan has allocated a grant of $122,881 to the Greater Karak Municipality to facilitate the procurement of waste collection trucks. This funding is part of the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) initiative.
According to Jordan News Agency, the grant contract was signed by the Japanese Ambassador to Jordan, Asari Hideki, and the Mayor of Greater Karak Municipality, Mohamed Maaitah. The initiative seeks to enhance waste management services in Karak City, which is home to a population of 130,600, including Syrian refugees.
Ambassador Asari praised the Municipality's commitment to public service, highlighting that the grant will contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment. He noted, "Greater Karak Municipality has a proud history of serving its people since 1893. This project is another step forward in its continued dedication to building a better future for the community."
Mayor Maaitah expressed gratitude for Japan's support, stressing that the acquisition of two new waste collection trucks will significantly improve service efficiency and alleviate operational challenges. He reiterated the Municipality's dedication to effectively managing the vehicles to uphold high-quality waste collection services.
Since 1993, Japan has invested over $10.5 million through the GGP program, supporting 160 projects across Jordan. These projects have benefited non-governmental organizations, schools, hospitals, and local governments.
