Amman: Minister of Social Development and Chair of the Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment, Wafa'a Bani Mustafa, participated Monday via video conference in a regional workshop titled: "Public Policy Making and Evaluation for Sustainable Development."
According to Jordan News Agency, the workshop was organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in collaboration with the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the American University in Cairo. In her comments during the session, which focused on the public policy process and the culture of evaluation to achieve sustainable development goals, Bani Mustafa highlighted the role of His Majesty King Abdullah II's vision in launching three modernization visions: economic, political, and administrative.
She explained that the legislative and executive branches have worked together to implement these modernization visions by organizing conferences and workshops to pass relevant legislation and policies, including constitutional amendments to the laws governing elections and political parties. Bani Mustafa emphasized that Jordan is actively monitoring the implementation of its strategies through executive plans prepared by concerned parties and recently established a platform to track government performance in relation to the economic modernization vision.
Bani Mustafa noted that Jordan prioritizes economic reforms, with ministries and other relevant parties submitting regular progress reports on achieving the economic modernization vision, using both quantitative and qualitative indicators to measure success. She clarified that Jordan drafts a voluntary report on the Sustainable Development Goals in collaboration with all stakeholders, stating, "Jordan is undergoing significant legislative, political, and economic transformations to create the necessary environment for these goals."
Bani Mustafa also pointed out that Jordan was among the first countries to submit a voluntary national review on its progress in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda at the High-Level Political Forum in 2017. She emphasized Jordan's commitment to involving all parties and stakeholders in the decision-making process, leading to policies that are sophisticated and responsive to local needs while adopting global best practices.
Finally, Bani Mustafa highlighted the critical role of youth as a dynamic demographic in society, asserting that they must play an active role in shaping Jordan's future through economic, social, environmental, and political development. Women and youth are considered key pillars in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
