Amman: Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) Director Nizar Mhaidat emphasized the strategic necessity of supporting the national pharmaceutical industry, highlighting its role as a key economic mainstay. Mhaidat noted that the sector directly contributes to job creation and positions Jordan as a regional pharmaceutical hub.
According to Jordan News Agency, Mhaidat made these remarks during a workshop on the accreditation of manufacturing sites, organized by the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers in collaboration with the JFDA. He highlighted the importance of Jordan's accession to the Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme, which is part of broader efforts to elevate the country's status as a leading destination in the pharmaceutical industry. This move is aimed at enabling the sector to achieve the goals outlined in the economic modernization vision.
Joining the Inspection Co-operation Scheme is expected to bring a significant shift in the development of pharmaceutical control and inspection systems, thereby enhancing the flow of national pharmaceutical exports to global markets. Mhaidat also stressed the importance of localizing pharmaceutical production, particularly for essential drug groups, which has a direct impact on enhancing competitiveness in foreign markets, increasing export opportunities, and boosting the production capacity of local factories.
Secretary-General of the Jordanian Association of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers, Hanan Soboul, noted that recent amendments to the accreditation criteria for manufacturing sites are aligned with the economic modernization vision, which places pharmaceuticals as a high-value priority sector.
