Amman: The Department of the Chief Justice on Monday hosted a Syrian judicial team led by Minister of Justice Mazhar Al-Wais, who are on an official visit for a first-hand look at Jordan's Sharia judiciary expertise and to explore enhancing cooperation between the two countries in this field. The delegation was received by President of the Higher Sharia Court, Sheikh Kamal Smadi, along with senior judges and officials, to discuss developing Sharia judicial work and strengthening institutional coordination, the department said in a statement.
According to Jordan News Agency, the visit underscores the deep, brotherly, and historical relations between Jordan and Syria, as well as shared religious, geographic, and common destiny bonds. Sheikh Kamal Smadi highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives to support brotherly countries and bolster cooperation, particularly in judicial and legal fields.
Syrian Minister Mazhar Al-Wais acknowledged Jordan's Sharia judiciary expertise and expressed Syria's willingness to benefit from Jordan's model for the reconstruction and development of its Sharia judicial system. The focus areas include family protection, capacity building, and exchange of expertise, aiming to establish effective partnerships in the near future.
Director of Sharia Courts Samih Zoubi provided an overview of institutional development in Jordan's Sharia judiciary, covering administrative restructuring, digital transformation, electronic services, family reform programs, and community awareness initiatives. Key projects include digital transformation, e-services, the Alimony Loan Fund, and specialized units for addressing family disputes.
Member of the Supreme Sharia Court and Director of the Technical Office Mansour Tawalbeh outlined the legislative framework governing Sharia judiciary work in Jordan. He detailed the core principles and the role of the Technical Office in disseminating judicial principles and legal awareness, serving as a reference for legal professionals to achieve high standards of fair trial.
First Sharia Judge of Damascus Ahmed Hamadeh emphasized Syria's commitment to building an independent and fair Sharia judiciary and expressed interest in learning from Jordan's expertise in this field.
