Jordan and Syria Explore Enhanced Social Protection Cooperation

Amman: Minister of Social Development, Wafa Bani Mustafa, engaged in discussions with Syrian Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Hind Qabwat, to enhance cooperation in social protection and welfare. The meeting, held at the ministry's headquarters, also included Ihsan Ruman, Charg© d'Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Amman.

According to Jordan News Agency, Bani Mustafa highlighted the strong bilateral relations and leadership between the two nations, emphasizing the need for enhanced cooperation in social services for target groups. This collaboration aims to support reform and recovery efforts for the Syrian people. She outlined Jordan's National Social Protection Strategy (2025-2033), which focuses on dignity, empowerment, opportunity, and resilience.

Bani Mustafa affirmed the government's dedication to increasing the inclusion of vulnerable groups within the social protection framework. She detailed current programs targeting persons with disabilities, orphans, destitute groups, juveniles, and the elderly, along with efforts to combat vagrancy.

She also underscored the role of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women's Empowerment in boosting women's political and economic participation. Bani Mustafa stressed the importance of partnerships with various ministries, national councils, and the private and voluntary sectors to achieve these goals.

Qabwat expressed gratitude towards Jordan for its support in Syria's recovery and reform efforts. She highlighted Syria's interest in learning from Jordan's experience in combating vagrancy, regulating associations, and implementing NAF aid mechanisms. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and benefit from Jordanian expertise in protection, care, and development.

The Syrian delegation's two-day visit intends to review Jordan's ministry programs, services, and affiliated units, fostering a deeper understanding and collaboration between the two countries.
