Cairo: Jordan took part in the 45th meeting of Arab customs directors, held on Monday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. The Kingdom was represented by Director General of the Jordan Customs Department, Major General Ahmad Akalik, alongside customs officials from across the Arab world.
According to Jordan News Agency, Akalik emphasized Jordan's engagement in Arab customs cooperation as part of the broader framework of joint Arab economic efforts under the Arab League. He noted that the meeting aimed to advance Arab economic integration through the Arab Customs Union, enhance technical cooperation, and unify customs procedures.
Discussions covered key topics such as advance rulings, a unified customs clearance guide, translations of the Harmonized System, and efforts to streamline procedures to facilitate the establishment of a full Arab Customs Union. The agenda also included follow-ups on customs-related recommendations from the Arab Economic and Social Council, reports from the Committee on Customs Procedures and Information, and the approval of guidelines for advance rulings and licensing regulations for customs clearance professionals.
Additionally, participants reviewed the work of the Technical Committee for Arab Customs Cooperation, efforts to harmonize translations of the Harmonized System, amendments to the Arab Transit Agreement, and proposals to enhance the institutional framework of the Arab customs directors' meetings.
