Amman: UNICEF in Jordan announced that it has received a $1 million donation from Korea to support water and sanitation services, basic health and hygiene, and child protection systems benefiting Syrian refugees.
According to Jordan News Agency, the funds will enable 78,000 Syrian refugees in the Zaatari camp to continue receiving safe water and sanitation services. The donation will help establish additional child-friendly classrooms in Zaatari and Al-Azraq camps, as well as in host communities. Social workers and law enforcement personnel will be trained in childcare curricula to ensure appropriate and supportive responses to vulnerable children.
UNICEF's Representative in Jordan, Philip Dallal, expressed appreciation for the support, emphasizing that the donation will help continue life-saving services in the Zaatari camp and enhance child protection and welfare efforts for vulnerable children facing challenging circumstances.
The Ambassador of Korea to Jordan, Kim Bell-Wow, commended UNICEF's role in providing assistance to refugees in Jordan. He noted that since 2011, Korea has contributed over $32 million to support refugees in Jordan through international organisations, including UNICEF. This latest contribution reaffirms the Korean government's ongoing commitment to supporting UNICEF's efforts.
