Mahafzeh Discusses Curriculum Development with University Presidents.

Amman: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Azmi Mahafzeh, held discussions on Thursday with presidents of official Jordanian universities to explore avenues for developing curriculum plans across various specializations. The aim is to equip students with the necessary skills to seamlessly integrate into local, regional, and global labor markets. According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions emphasized the need to integrate courses on media and information literacy into university study plans and the newly prepared national education curriculum. This initiative was recently undertaken by an ad hoc committee. The meeting also highlighted the launch of new specializations tailored to the labor market's evolving needs, aligning with the development of the new Jordanian high school system, especially in vocational and technical tracks designed for students pursuing vocational education. To enhance educational performance, the discussions underscored the importance of keeping up with digi tization efforts in Jordan's government services, advocating for a reflection of this trend in university services provided to students. This would be achieved through cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship. The meeting also addressed the admission mechanism for non-Jordanian students implemented this year, stressing adherence to the Higher Education Council's decisions to streamline the process through the newly launched unified electronic admission system. Furthermore, participants noted that 3,807 non-Jordanian students applied and paid the application fee to join Jordan's public university programs at the start of the 2024-2025 academic year. Of these, 3,605 students from 122 countries were nominated for admission. The meeting also tackled the issue of debts on official universities, discussing proposed mechanisms to reduce and prevent future increases in these debts.
