Pyongyang: North Korea has strongly condemned the recent US raid on Venezuela that led to the capture of its president, labeling Washington's actions as a 'flagrant violation' of international law. The state news agency KCNA reported that North Korea views the incident as a clear indication of the United States' 'rogue and bestial nature.'
According to Anadolu Agency, a spokesperson for North Korea's Foreign Ministry emphasized the gravity of the current situation in Venezuela, attributing it to the US's 'coercive actions.' The spokesperson warned that the growing instability in Venezuela could exacerbate an already fragile regional situation.
The ministry highlighted that this incident underscores the 'rogue and bestial nature of the United States,' a characteristic that the international community has observed numerous times. North Korea condemned the US action as 'hegemonic' and the most severe form of 'infringement' on sovereignty, describing it as a 'flagrant violation' of the UN Charter and international law, which emphasize respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and territorial integrity.
Pyongyang urged the international community to voice opposition to the US actions and to take the Venezuelan crisis seriously, warning of the devastating consequences for regional stability and international relations.
Venezuela's government announced early Saturday that the US attacked civilian and military installations across multiple states, subsequently declaring a national emergency. US President Donald Trump confirmed the "large-scale" strike, stating that President Maduro and his wife had been captured and transported to a detention center in New York.
These developments followed months of escalating US pressure on Maduro, whom Washington accuses of involvement in drug trafficking. Maduro had denied these allegations and expressed a willingness to engage in talks.
