UN Intensifies Efforts for Ceasefire in Lebanon.

Beirut: The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, announced from Beirut that the United Nations is exerting intense efforts with various parties to achieve a ceasefire. Lacroix emphasized the importance of "implementing Resolution 1701 as the sole solution to the situation in the south," stressing the significance of cooperation between UNIFIL and the Lebanese Armed Forces. According to Jordan News Agency, during his meeting with the Lebanese Prime Minister, Lacroix stated that "his visit to Lebanon is intended to express solidarity with Lebanon and its people," expressing his appreciation for the Lebanese state's stance in rejecting assaults on UNIFIL forces. For his part, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed "gratitude for UNIFIL forces and their steadfastness in maintaining their positions despite the challenging circumstances they face." He affirmed that "the government remains committed to implementing UN Resolution 1701 and fully supports the compr ehensive cooperation between the army and UNIFIL." Lacroix arrived in Beirut on Tuesday for a three-day visit, during which he will tour UNIFIL's operational areas in the south to express solidarity with the peacekeepers.
