Gov’t waives fines in customs cases up to 90%

The cabinet resolved to waive up to 90% of the fines that would otherwise be payable by those engaged in customs cases that were detected or documented before December 31, 2019, according to the Ministry of Finance. The decision stipulated that 90 percent of customs and tax fines, confiscation allowances and administrative expenses will be exempted based on the provisions of the Customs and Public Funds Collection Laws, whether the cases are under judicial rulings, administrative decisions or conciliatory settlement contracts. The exemption decision stated that all fees, taxes, service allowances, expenses, remaining fines, and the execution of confiscations must be paid within six months of the date on which the decision was issued. If the aforementioned amounts are paid within the next six months, the exemption rate will be lowered to seventy-five percent. In addition, the decision stipulated that the exemption rate would be lowered to 60% if the goods that were the subject of the customs offense did no t incur any duties or taxes, as long as the remaining fines and forfeitures were paid within the six months that followed the date of the decision's issuance. If the remaining fines and forfeitures were paid within that time frame, the exemption rate would be lowered to 40%. Source: Jordan News Agency
