Amman: The Jordan Hotel Association (JHA) and the Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing eco-awareness among hotels to incorporate environmentally friendly practices in line with international standards. The agreement was signed by JHA Vice Chairman, Hussein Hilalat, and JREDS’s Acting Executive Director, Khaled Kurdi, as part of efforts to support Jordanian hotels in obtaining the “Green Key” certificate, a recognized international eco-label that promotes eco-sustainability in the tourism sector and assists hotels in global marketing and e-promotion.
According to Jordan News Agency, the memorandum outlines plans for the two organizations to conduct lectures and training courses for hotels interested in achieving the “Green Key” certification. Additionally, they will implement awareness programs emphasizing the significance of sustainable environmental practices within the sector. This initiative aims to help Jordanian hotels meet the necessary standards for certification, thereby improving resource efficiency, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing economic opportunities for the establishments involved.
JHA, in a statement, highlighted the importance of this collaboration in achieving sustainable development and reinforcing Jordan’s position as a prominent tourist destination committed to adopting global environmental standards. This effort is expected to have positive implications for the hotel sector and the broader national economy.
