Jordan and Japan Discuss Future Cooperation on Water Sector Projects

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan met Wednesday with Shohei HARA, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to discuss ongoing and future collaboration on water sector projects in Jordan. These projects are expected to be signed in the coming months. The discussions also touched on Japan's future financial and technical assistance priorities for Jordan. According to a statement from the ministry, Minister Toukan expressed her gratitude to the Japanese government and people for their continued support of Jordan, during her meeting with Shohei on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Washington. Toukan highlighted the significance of Jordan's strong bilateral relationship with Japan, noting that this year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. Since 1999, Jordan has received nearly $2 billion in aid from Japan, in the form of grants and concessional loans. This aid has supported Jordan's budget and financed numerous developmental projects in sectors such as water, energy, environment, healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation. It has also contributed to the development of the industrial and tourism sectors, as well as human resources and vocational training programs. Source: Jordan News Agency
