Amman: Minister of Agriculture, Khaled Hneifat, announced the ministry’s plans to sign a contract to establish a sugar refinery plant, aimed to meeting the Kingdom’s needs of beet-produced sugar as part of efforts to achieve Jordan’s self-sufficiency and enhance food security. The minister’s announcement came during a meeting Sunday, with investors in the agro-food industries complex in the southern Jordan Valley, aimed to supporting Jordan’s agricultural food industries to achieve independence in this field.
According to Jordan News Agency, during the meeting, Hneifat praised efforts of the Wadi Araba Development Company in supporting Jordan’s agricultural activities and enhancing agricultural growth. The ministry, he noted, seeks to develop agricultural food industries by directly supporting factories within the agri-industries stimulation project and other industry initiatives.
Additionally, he said an agreement was signed to establish a factory for the production of semi-fried potatoes to become the 20th ministry-supported plant, in a step aimed at strengthening national industries, employing Jordanians, and absorbing surplus agricultural production. Hneifat stressed the ministry’s support for providing soft loans to farmers, in cooperation with the Agricultural Credit Corporation, focusing on product quality.
