Parliament Committee Recommends Flexible AI Legislation, National Charter for Safe Use

Amman: The Lower House's Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Committee has advised the integration of a "flexible" legislative framework to keep pace with the advancement of artificial intelligence technologies. The committee also called for drafting a national charter to ensure the safe and responsible use of AI, focusing on governance structures and ethical principles.

According to Jordan News Agency, the recommendations came during a committee meeting chaired by MP Hussein Kreishan, attended by Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Academics and Scientists Ahmad Ayasrah, Dr. Maher Saleem, and Dr. Saqr Amouri. Kreishan mentioned that the committee views digital transformation as a national project that requires restructuring administrative and legislative systems, enhancing transparency, and empowering youth capacities.

MPs Ahmad Aleimat, Hamed Rahamna, Adnan Mashouqa, and Fleiha Khadhir emphasized the need to accelerate digital transformation in government institutions, develop relevant legislation, and prepare younger generations for optimal AI use. Ayasrah highlighted the importance of AI across all fields and urged advancing digital transformation on a scientific basis.

Saleem pointed out that digital transformation is a necessity, calling for educational reforms to align with the digital age and the creation of an ethical code of conduct to regulate AI use. Amouri advocated for adopting a robust legislative framework that protects personal data and revises educational curricula to keep pace with technological changes.
