Jordan secures 2nd medal in World Karate League

Jordan Saturday won its second gold medal in the World Karate League, the Rabat round that concluded today in Morocco.

The second gold medal was won by the karate player Muhammad Jaafari who won the under-84 kg final against Italian Matthew Flower 4/3.

Player of the national karate team Abdul Rahman Masatfah won the gold medal today in the under 67 kg weight group.

26 parties rectified status with expiry of legal period-IEC

During a meeting held Sunday, chaired by Musa Maaytah, board of commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced that the period set by Political Parties Law to rectify status of Jordan’s political parties has expired.

To date, the IEC said 26 parties met the terms and conditions of the law in force, adding that one party has completed requirements to hold its founding conference.

In a statement Sunday, IEC’s official spokesperson, Mohammad Khair Rawashdeh, said 19 parties failed to meet requirements to rectify their status, partly due to failure to meet one condition or more as set by the law, or inability to submit requests to complete their rectification process.

Rawashdeh indicated that percentage of Jordanian women, who joined Jordan’s political parties stood at 40.3%, while men rate amounted to 59.68%.

Number of female youth under the age of 35 recorded a 15.8% rate, while party members between 18-22 ages saw a 9.6% rate, he added.

Rawashdeh noted parties that failed to rectify their status, or submit requests to complete their rectification process with expiry of the legal period are deemed dissolved according to paragraph (B / 40 of the Parties Law No. (7) for 2022, adding that IEC registration department will notify those parties of this matter.

Cabinet approves law regulating customs police work

The Cabinet Sunday approved a law regulating the work of the customs police and the ranks and insignia for police officers.

The approved law would set conditions for those appointed in the customs department and to linking the salary of customs police officers to their rank and their duties, tasks and responsibilities.

The law would regulate provisions related to customs control and binding and activate disciplinary procedures by creating a customs discipline unit.

The Cabinet approved financial and economic regulations for the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority. The draft law aims to encourage investment and tackle obstacles facing enterprises registered in the Aqaba region.

The draft law would add tourism activity to the economic activities covered by the provisions of the law and enable the authority to accept or reject the application for re-registration of a legally cancelled establishment after submitting a clearance from the relevant authorities.

Also, the Cabinet approved the labour medical, preventive and curative care law for 2023. The law comes to develop legal provisions for occupational safety and health standards in line with international standards.

It would provide preventive and curative medical care to workers during a work injury or disease caught at a workplace.

The Cabinet meeting approved the Occupational Safety and Health Law and the Prevention of Occupational Hazards in Institutions for 2023.

It approved the mandating reasons for the draft Social Development Law for 2023 ahead of sending it to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau.

The draft law is aimed at updating the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) law, which has been in effect for about 65 years.

The Cabinet agreed to start purchasing wheat and barley crops from farmers for the 2022/2023 agricultural season.

The Cabinet approved Jordan’s membership to the Islamic Organisation for Food Security and the promotion of Jordan as a “centre” for grain distribution in the region.

EU welcomes cease-fire in Gaza

The EU Sunday welcomed the cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinian factions in Gaza and expressed it would work with all parties to uphold stability in the region.

The EU stated that it regrets the loss of civilian lives during the Israeli campaign in Gaza, including children who were killed and injured in Gaza, adding, “It is now important to support the ceasefire and reopen the crossings to allow the entry of humanitarian aid, fuel in particular, and the crossing of workers to enter and exit Gaza.”

The EU renewed its call to all parties to work towards de-escalation in line with the understandings reached during the Aqaba and Sharm El-Sheikh meetings.

Separately, the German Foreign Ministry welcomed the declared cease-fire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement and called on both sides to abide by what was announced.

DW cited a statement issued Sunday by the Foreign Ministry expressing “grief over the dead civilians.” The Foreign Ministry urged for the protection of civilians and stressed the need for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.

Jordan participates in annual meeting of Board of Governors of Islamic Development Bank

The Planning Minister of Jordan and Governor of Jordan at the Islamic Development Bank Group, Zeina Toukan, Sunday headed the Jordanian delegation participating in the annual meetings of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank Group.

Entitled “Establishing Partnerships to Prevent Crisis,” the meetings that were held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, focused on supporting economic recovery and resilience in member states facing financial and economic challenges.

Toukan said that the Bank had re-aligned its strategy for 2023-2025 to suit the needs of member states and enable them to counter challenges and enhance their resilience.

The strategy focuses on three areas of intervention: Promote recovery, combat poverty, build resilience and stimulate green economic growth.

FINANCE MINISTRY: TOMORROW, MONDAY, IS THE LAST DAY TO BENEFIT FROM EXEMPTIONS FROM FINES ON TAXES, VIOLATIONS

In an issued statement on Sunday, the Ministry of Finance pointed out to all citizens and taxpayers that tomorrow, Monday, May 15, 2023, is the last day to benefit from exemptions from fines for taxes, fees, and violations amounting to 100% based on Article 20 of the Budget Law 2022.

The Ministry called on all those concerned who wish to benefit from these exemptions to head tomorrow to its centers in all governorates during official working hour, and also announced that it will extend the deadline for issuing receipts until twelve o’clock midnight on Monday, May 15th, in its main building at the Directorate of Imports and TVA in Adlieh – Corniche Al-Nahr.

The Ministry encouraged those concerned with tax on built property to access its website www.finance.gov.lb to find out the status of their files.

Chairman of the Executive Council of “Project Watan”, MP Neemat Frem, visited today Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Al-Bukhari, in Yarzeh, and Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Beshara Butros Al-Rahi, in Bkirki

Violent Clashes Between Palestinian Resistance Fighters And The Israeli Occupation Forces In Nablus

Violent clashes broke out between Palestinian resistance fighters and the Israeli occupation forces in Nablus.

The media reported: that the Israeli army forces stormed this morning, Sunday, the Old City in the city of Nablus, from several axes, amid the outbreak of armed clashes with Palestinian resistance fighters.

Media added: Violent clashes took place between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian gunmen, in the vicinity of Al-Qaysaria neighborhood in Nablus, amid reports that a number of young men were injured.

The Ministry of Health announced that one person was injured by live bullets in the extremities, who arrived at Rafidia Governmental Hospital in Nablus, as a result of the Israeli occupation’s aggression against the city this morning.
