AMMAN: France has extended a £150 million loan to Jordan to support its Public Sector Modernization Roadmap, marking a significant step in the bilateral cooperation between the two nations. The agreement was signed by Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Zeina Toukan, and Yves Guicquéro, Regional Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) for the Middle East.
According to Jordan News Agency, the loan aims to bolster Jordan’s public sector by focusing on three key priorities: strengthening governance, restructuring certain public institutions, and improving the human resources management system. These initiatives are intended to develop institutional capacities and create a more empowered and effective public sector.

Yves Guicquéro noted that the funding is part of the AFD’s broader efforts to help Jordan tackle its institutional, economic, and social challenges. The agency also announced an additional £1 million grant aimed at providing technical support and capacity building as part of the program. This initiative is framed within the 5th memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the AFD, outlining joint development cooperation from 2023 to 2026.
